Outsiders 1

On page 38 in paragraph it says that one of the differences between socs and greasers is money. On the second paragraph on the same page says that greasers have way more emotion than socs and have a different set of values than socs. In that same paragraph it says that the socs are sophisticated and cool to the point that they don’t feel anything. In the third paragraph on
page 38 it says the socs have more than they want, so they’re always searching for something to satisfy themselves, but not finding it. On page 3 in paragraph one it says that the greasers are poorer and wilder that the socs.

Hey Jonathan! It's Michaela Rusch. I agree with the differences you said. I think the main difference is the money. The socs are richer than the greasers, and they have nicer things. I like how you added that the both have different values because it might help us figure out why they are enemies. They might be enemies because they believe in different things and they both think their beliefs are the right ones. Even though they are very different they still have similarities. They both are wild gangs that enjoy fighting, especially against each other. It shows that even the people who seem very different can be similar. Awesome job!

You have been asked to come and speak to the kids in both gangs. What could you say to them that would incorporate your values as a Catholic to help them resolve their differences?
I would say " There is no use in jumping each other, all that is created by jumping each other is contempt". With the socs I would recomend to them to try to not do violent things to satisfy their want of adventure in stead they should try to help others in need with their rescources that they have. To the greasers I would probably say to not create so much trouble and be so wild. What they could do is stop getting in fights with other people and only fight when you need to defend yourself and mainly concentrate their efforts on making life better for themselvs. That could be accomplished by trying to stay in school if possible. Also I would try to realy the message to the greasers that stealing is immoral and wrong. Also I would try to explain to them you can get the same things without having to steal.

Very good. I think staying in school is the very best advice. ~Mrs. Best

Hey Jonathon! It's REAGAN. You were right on what you would say to the greasers to not be so wild. I would also say not to drink so much alcohal (the reason for their craziness). I would also put in to try to make friends with the other gang. I agree with you saying to try to stay in school because in school, you learn new social skills, to be a better person and to forgive. Great job!

Hi Jonathan. It's Jack Pulito. I agree with what you would say to the Socs about using the things they have to help people. They have so much more than the greasers, so I think they could give a little bit of it away. Also, I think the greasers should stay in school too. If they go to college they can get better jobs and make there lives better. You did a really good job.

Explain what Ponyboy finds out about Randy and the other Socs at the end of Chapter 7.
Jonathan Bartlett Wiki response 3 week 2
on page 116 paragraph 2 Ponyboy finds out that Randy is sick and tired of fighting and on the same page in paragraph one Pony boy finds out that Randy can feel emotions, when Ponyboy sees the pain in Randy's eyes. On page 117 paragraph 2 Ponyboy finds out what Cherry ment when she said "things are rough all over." by talking to Randy and seeing him almost cry. On page 118 paragraph 1 Ponyboy says that Randy is just a guy not a soc. He probably figured all this out by talking to him and getting to konw the real him instead of the cool side of him. Over the pages 116 to 118 Ponboy finds more about the socs and realizes that they are real people with emotions on the inside just it is just shrouded by a sense of unfeeling.

I am agree! ~Mrs. Best

Hi Johnathan. It's Ricky. I agree with everything you said about how some of the Socs are just regular people. They have emotions just like everyone else. I think it took a lot for Randy to tell Ponyboy all that he told him. I think you are right how some of the Socs are just guys not Socs. I think that some of the other Socs want to say the same thing as Randy but are afraid to. I think you did a great job!

Hey Johnathan,
I also agree that the Socs are just regular People. The problem between the two gangs is just that they all have different positions in society. The greasers don't like being poorer than the Socs, so they try to show them their just as tough as the Socs.

Good job,
Mitchell

When we get to know people better, we usually like them more. If that's true, what could we do if we really don't like someone?

Outsiders response 4 week 2
If we really don't like someone we usually don't hang out with the much because we don't like them. If we spend a small ammount of time with them we don't get to know them better and if we don't get to know them how are we ever supposed to like them. If you want more friends hang out with more people so you can get to know them and find out some similateries with them and become friends with them. In the book greasers don't hang out with the socs and Ponyboy didn't even know they were people just like the greasers untill he talked Cherry and Randy
. I bet if the socs and the greasers got to know eah other they would find out that they had a lot in common and at least not dislike each other as much.
I agree! ~Mrs. Best
